Banter Cold Brew

Banter is a brand I developed through a package design class. Banter is a canned fruit-infused cold brew with four different flavors: Toasted Almond Raspberry, Dark Chocolate Strawberry, Honey Vanilla Orange, and Salted Carmel Blueberry. The target audience is young people who are on the go, students, and coffee lovers. People who drink Banter are curious and open to trying new things. I branded Banter in a way that was bold and exciting, a can that is intended to stand out from other cold brews that already exist in the market.

My initial research into the canned cold brew competitors was pretty consistent. They all had similar aesthetic and flavors. At coffee shops, I have had coffees that included a fruity favor or component, so I thought this would be something fun to explore. When I think of fruit, I think of bold, fun, bright, and summer. The juxtaposition of this with coffee created a good challenge in being able to still convey coffee while also highlighting that it is fruit-infused.

 Instagram Campaign

I decided to do a product launch campaign on Instagram. Similar to the rest of the brand, I wanted it to be bright, bold, fun, and geared towards a younger, more female crowd. I utilized the images that I had taken in the lighting studio and edited them to fit the brand. Initially, I had thought about doing more illustrative posts, but after working on the layout and talking with my group, I decided that more lifestyle imagery would be beneficial for the brand. I played the posts out in illustrator before posting to make sure the colors and content were balanced. This was helpful in rearranging photos as needed and seeing what other content would be successful for the page. For highlights, I decided to make them more user-focused. Young people love free content rather than an influencer highlight or additional ads, I created backgrounds out of my pattern and created playlists that hit the brand’s vibe. I felt that this type of content would be well received by a younger audience and encourages them to be more engaged and recognize the brand.

  • inspiration

I considered a few different beverage categories before choosing coffee. I went with coffee because it is something that I love, drink every day, and am personally always looking to try a new brand or flavor. When branding Banter, I really leaned into the ideas of being talkative, high-energy, and a little jittery.

  • for next time

Overall, I was really happy with this final design. If I were to do anything differently, I would have liked to try a couple of different iterations of the multipack. I ended up focusing on the sample pack, but I think other multipacks, such as a six-pack or an enclosed case would have been interesting to explore deeper.
